Sometimes, it's the little things that win games.
Cleveland Cavaliers forward Donovan Mitchell admitted he was trying to make "something out of nothing" when he did a little trash-talking as Boston's Grant Williams stepped to the line with the score tied 109-109 Monday night.
The Celtics forward, an 82.7% free throw shooter, needed to hit just one of his two shots with 0.8 seconds to play to give his team the win and snap a two-game losing streak.
Williams was so confident, he even told Mitchell – as the game's TV broadcast captured – he was going to make both.
It wasn't the first time Mitchell has attempted to get into an opponent's head. He told reporters after the game he did the same thing in last year's playoffs with the Mavericks' Jalen Brunson.
And where did he get his inspiration? From LeBron James ... who put the mental whammy on Washington's Gilbert Arenas in a 2006 playoff game right before Arenas missed a crucial free throw that helped James' Cavaliers win the game and the series.
